[2] Ted was Trooper #1622, in Squadron A, 8th Calvary Brigade, 3rd Division of the Royal Horse Guards under the Commander of First Army, Sir Douglas Haig. The Battle of Loos was the largest British offensive mounted on the Western Front in 1915 during World War I, cost more than 61,000 British casualties, mostly from the use of Chlorine Gas. "At Loos, the British employed poisonous gas for the first time in the war, releasing some 150 tons of chlorine from over 5,000 gas cylinders across no-man's land. [3] Mabel Edith Lindup was born East Preston, December 1900, according to the 1901 census. Mabel and George had a baby daughter named Mabel, born April-June 1924 who died July-September 1924. George then died between Oct-Dec. 1924 of an inferction from a finger wound received while working as a butcher.
