[1] Sarah Ann Toms was b. abt. 1835 in Plymouth, Devonshire. After James d. in 1874, Sarah continued to run the Ironworks, employing 19 men by 1881 and children; Sarah, Richard and James continue to live with her plus Kathleen A. Lynch, sister of Richard Irwin Lynch who had m. Harriett was visiting from St. Germain's, Cornwall. Sarah is still alive in 1891, but is retired and unmarried daughter, Sarah, lives with her. I do not find her in 1901, but in 1911, she seems to be living alone at 18 North Square in Dorchester as a Pensioner. There is not a Death Record for her until Jul 1898 in East Stonehouse, Devonshire, and I have not ordered her record.
[2] Richard Irwin Lynch was b. 1 June 1850 in S. Germans, Cornwall, England. Children of Harriett and Richard are; Edith K. Lynch b. abt. 1885, Cambridge, England; Richard I. Lynch b. abt. 1889, Cambridge, England; and Walter G. Lynch b. abt. 1890, Cambridge, England. Kew trained like his father, Lynch became the Curator at Cambridge University Botanic Gardens where his efforts raised the reputation of the Cambridge Gardens as second only to Kew. He was most well known for his work with the Gerbera Daisy. Published in 1904, his most important printed work was "The Book of the Iris." He was awarded the Victoria Medal of honor in 1906 and died 7 December 1924 in Torquay, Devonshire, England.
[3] Free BMD lists Richard Pomeroy as b. September 1862. He was likely named for his father's brother who died in the same year. At age 34, working as a Photographer, son of James Pomeroy (deceased), Iron Monger, Richard Pomeroy and Mabel Dewhurst, age 21, Spinster, daughter of William James Dewhurst; both listed at 312 York Road, Islington, London, married at the London Registry Office. Richard's younger brother, J. Edgcumbe Pomeroy and "E. Haw" [sic] served as witnesses to the marriage. The 1901 census shows the couple living at 130 Railroad St., Nelson, Little Marsden St. Paul, Burnley, NE Lancashire where Mabel is listed as having been born in Hove, Sussex (??? she was born in Islington, London). A family story states that an aunt who dealt in "simples" lived in Hove (which is adjacent to Brighton), but neither her identity nor her relationship within the larger family has been established. She could have been an aunt to Richard; Marianne or Emma or she could have been Mary A Toms, sister to his mother, Sarah Ann.....
[4] James was a Draper at the time of his marriage to Emma and they lived at 65 Conduit Street/Regent Street, London where James Pomeroy, Ironmonger and Jabez Walkerdine, a City Missionary were listed as parents of the couple. 1891 Census shows James E. and Emma Pomeroy living in Islington, London at 40 Fortnam Road with a 1 year old son named Richard Edgcumbe Pomeroy. 1901 census shows the same couple living at 52 Farrant Avenue, Tottenham, Middlesex - a daughter, Lilian is 8 years old, placing her birth abt. 1893. In 1911, the family lies at 42 St Albans Crescent, Wood Green N, Wood Green, Middlesex, England and the family has brown to include Nancie Ella, age 9 (b. abt. 1902) and Frances Joyce, age 2 (b. abt. 1909). Probate of a Will for Richard Edgcumbe/Edgecombe Pomeroy leaving his effects to Nancie Ella Pomeroy does exist in the England & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations), pg. 617.
