[1] The name "Susannah" as wife of Isaac is certain. It is possible that this is Susanna Shackleton m. in 1727. The IGI puts this marriage as being at Saxton in Elmet which is a long way from the area in which we are looking, but the Isaac/Susanna name combination is too unusual to dismiss without much further research. The same marriage seems to appear at Keighley which is close to the correct area. Isaac Dewhurst was a tennant farmer and moved around probably as bigger and/or better farms became available. His will was made 16 Jan 1769 and proved at York 6 Jan 1770. Susanna must have already passed on as she doesn't appear on the will - in fact there is no wife mentioned.
[2] Children of Mary Dewhurst and John Roberts, all Chr. at Bracewell, Yorkshire, England; Susanna, Chr 28 May 1758; William, Chr 30 Sep 1759; Richard, Chr 9 May 1762; Mary, Chr 4 Sep 1768; Marthy, Chr 19 May 1771. There is also a Sarah Dewhurst marrying a William Roberts at Bracewell in 1765. This looks like 2 brothers marrying 2 sisters. There is no Sarah on Isaac's will. She could have died by 1769 or possibly she is a cousin of my Dewhursts. Sarah and William have 2 chiuldren Chr at Bracewell - Richard, Chr 1766 and Mary, Chr 1770 at Bracewell.
[3] John may be the John B. 12 Jan and Chr 13 Feb 1732 at Keighley OR may be b. about 1743 as given age at the time of marriage suggests. John took over the lease of Varley Field and died there in 1798. His will was made 6 Oct 1794 and proved Oct 1798 at York. He has no children but leaves money and his lease on a Farm at Newsholm to his wife, Mary, then small amounts to his brother, William, Robert (the son of Betty Malham) and Joseph (the son of John 'Brasha') - (John Brayshire - probably Brayshaw - is one of the witnesses to the will). The rest is to be divided amongst the children of his siblings - Mary, Isaac and Thomas. Mary Malham possibly b. abt 1745. Mary Dewhurst of Newsholme dies before August 1800.
[4] Hannah is known only from her father's will - she is a minor child - i.e., under 21 as of 16 Jan 1769 and should be younger than Thomas.

[1] Thomas was a tenant farmer until about 1800 when he purchased his own farm - "Pickhill." Pickhill still exists today. Pickhill was located near Elslack near Skipton where Thomas had a mill and worked as a Cotton Tradesman/Manufacturer. This mill was managed by Thomas's nephew, Isaac, son of Isaac Jr. and Catherione. Old account books in possession of Messers John Dewhurst & Sons, Limited relate that previous to 1785, Mr Thomas Dewhurst, of Marton, grandfather of the senior partners of Messers John Dewhurst & Sons, Limited was, in addition to farming, carrying on a trade in wool, and buying twist from Darlington and other places, presumably for the use of handloom weavers. Thomas always farmed alongside building up his cotton business and running his mills - he never lost contact with the land. Ellen/Eleanor Thornber/Thornbor was Chr. 16 May 1756 in Long Preston, Yorkshire into an old Gisburn farming family. She was the fourth child of Henry Thornber and his wife Ellen nee Bulcock. The Thornber's were yeomen at Gisburn at least from the mid - 1600s. The family was described as being of Hellifield, Gisburn on her Christening records. There are various Thornber descent marriages of varying degree of cousinship. Thomas and Ellen lived at Marton in Craven whilst their children were being born. NOTE: Ellen is always documented with the name Ellen or Ellin on all records except the Christening of her last child - then she is recorded as Eleanor. Ellen died in 1839 in Gisburn, Yorkshire, England. The farm wasn't sold by Isaac's eldest son, John, until after Ellen died.
[2] Nancy Dewhurst and Storey Watkinson had nine children.
[3] James Dewhurst and Elizabeth Shiers had three children: Benjamin Shiers Dewhurst b: 10 November 1817 in Skipton, Yorkshire, UK; Eleanor Dewhurst b: 19 August 1819 in Skipton, Yorkshire, UK and James Dewhurst b: 13 April 1821 in Skipton, Yorkshire, UK.
[4] Eleanor Dewhurst and Henry Wilson had four children.
